If Kevin McCallister and John McClane had a lovechild, he would be David McHarbour. The comparisons are spot on, both literally being mentioned in the movie. It's hard these days to capture the right tone for an R-rated kinda family Christmas movie, but they somehow find a great balance of heart and guts. Instant cult classic, sure to come with lots of sequels.
